100 Words -- A Matter of Priorities

The FBI reported 6,371 homicides committed with handguns in 2012. That’s about 17 handgun murders each day. CDC estimates there are 44 murders by any means each day. Illegal immigrants represent about 4 percent of the population, which would prorate to 2 murders a day by illegal immigrants. Hmm, let’s see. Seventeen deaths by handguns each day. Maybe two homicides a day by illegal immigrants. Which should be a higher priority problem when it comes to the safety of the American people? If you listen to the rhetoric coming from most of the Republican candidates for president, it’s a no-brainer.
