100 Words -- The Banality of Twitter

When did Tweets become a regular part of print and broadcast news shows? Who decided that a screen shot of a Tweet from someone calling themselves #gummybearlover that says “Sooo sorry!” is news? Well, I have some breaking news for you. Force-feeding me tweets that too often fail to rise to the level of greeting-card banalities in the midst of what’s supposed to be serious, professional journalism … that’s not news. It’s fluff and filler. It’s news editors being lazy. I have nothing in particular against Twitter. I just don’t believe showing random anonymous Tweets adds to the story. #grumpyoldman
